Highlands Independent Bank officially opened its doors on November 1, 1985. It was organized as a state chartered independent bank for the purpose of providing hands on, personalized service to the people who live and work in Highlands County. Our growth and strength can be directly attributed to this philosophy, which will be carried on into the future.

In 1996, the Bank opened its second office in Avon Park, followed by the opening of its third office in South Sebring in 2000. March of 2002 was the opening of it's Downtown Sebring office and the Lake Placid branch opened in April of 2002. The Bank added an Operations Center in July of 2004 to house Deposit Operations, Training and Finance functions. The sixth office location, Sun N' Lake, was opened in December of 2006 and the expansion of the Main Office location was completed in January of 2007.
